1st Holy Communion

Posted by Jen at 8:58 PM 0 comments
End of school term 2 is nearly approaching, and I can't wait for the school break to fly home to catch up with all the family we dearly miss! But just before taking off, I've got one more celebration cake to complete.  This is a first holy communion cake for the special Alexa. Congratulations!

Barbie doll cake

Happy Birthday, beautiful Bridget!!!

My first attempt at making a pink barbie doll cake, hence this was a joy to make.  The last time I held a barbie doll was many decades ago, so it was exciting to deal with things 'girly' again.  One thing that a mom of two boys doesn't know is never try to give Barbie a new hairstyle, specially when there's no Barbie hairbrush in sight!First thing my 4 yr old son asked me when he saw the completed cake was were the legs inside the cake!

Cake making

Posted by Jen at 10:06 PM 0 comments
At the end of each cake task, I often ask myself what is it about cake making that I enjoy the most, and my answers were always the same no matter how big or small the task was. Aside from liking an artistic challenge, it's also seeing the joyous reaction of whoever receives the cake, and it's very overwhelming to feel it. I celebrate in the fact that I am directly involved in making someone's day a little extra special, and I love the fact too that I can touch someone's life simply through a...cake! Hopefully, with all the cakes I've made I've etched in their memories a little reminder that it was their special day and that they too are very special.

The second cake for this same weekend was for Thomas who loves Star Wars.  Here's my take for the Death Star:

Mermaid Cake

I had the pleasure of making two cakes this week - one of for a birthday girl and another for a birthday boy.  Here's the mermaid cake for Sienna and I love going pink or anything 'girly'.

Sofia's and Luna's birthday

Posted by Jen at 7:00 PM 0 comments
Happy birthday to Sofia and Luna - two sweet little girls who were born on the same day - and now they're both one year old!

Inspiration for their birthday cake was Sofia's favourite toy - a rocking dinosaur.  I wish you both a fabulous and fun-filled year ahead!

Jamie's and Ethan's birthday

Our sweet boy Jamie's now four years old!  He loves spending hours doing craft, painting, colouring and is attracted to the colour yellow!  How I wish that packets of crayons and felt-tip markers come in single colours, so that we will not quickly run out of yellow!

Jamie was very lucky to share his birthday celebration with his good friend Ethan, who also turned four on the same month. Our craft-loving preschoolers opted for an art-themed party, with plaster painting as their main activity. The other side of the cake has Ethan's name on it, so that they appear to have their own separate cakes for photos (let me dig again for more photos and I'll post it soon).
